The stores department is the department which deals with the aircraft and engines spares. Is responsible for providing spares and materials to all operating aircraft. To do this the department must deal with ordering, storing, and life expiring control as well as tracking the unserviceable spares and arranging for their repair.
There is an adjacent extension to the main stores, which is situated at the back
of the hangar which is used for the storage of aircraft seats. The layout of the
main stores is such as to provide a well defined and segregated flow of
serviceable and unserviceable components and materials. Spares and supplies
usually enter and leave the Engineering complex through appropriate entrance/exit
points at the outside walls of the Stores premises, while flow of parts to and
from the aircraft under maintenance, is through appropriate issue/receipt
counters inside the hangar. Stores Department
accommodate the following sections to enable its correct operation: 1. Tyre Room This area is used to
Store all the serviceable aircraft wheel assemblies and new tyres. It is
equipped with floor and wall mounted metallic racks to support wheel assemblies.
The room covers an area of 77m2 and is air conditioned and is relatively kept
dark. The area is
administered by the Duty Storekeeper. 2. Goods - Inwards -
(Qaurantine) The area is used to
provide storage of raw materials and parts until they are listed, numbered and
loaded onto the appropriate incoming room areas for inspection and clearance. It
covers an area of 55.8m2 and is equipped with suitable racks and office
equipment including a computer terminal. The area is under the responsibility of
the incoming goods receipt clerk, the Duty Storekeeper and the Senior
Storekeeper. 3. Inflammable Stores This is situated at
the rear of the main stores building and isolated from the main stores area. It
is used to store all inflammable material and liquids. The room covers an area
of 24.6m2 and is equipped with suitable racks and cupboards and is air -
conditioned. 4. Commercial Stores This area is used to
store all commercial items and covers an area of 27.7m2 . 5. Computer and Telex
Room This Room houses the
Stores Main Computer system. The room covers an area of 24.3m2 and is
air-conditioned and is kept relatively dust free. 6. Senior
Store-Keepers Office This office is used
for the general administration of stores and is equipped with all necessary
office furniture, Tel/fax and a computer terminal. The office covers an
area of 15.5m2 and is administered by the Senior Storekeeper. 7. Duty Storekeepers
Office The Duty Storekeepers
office is used as the main issue counter and is located centrally between the
Tools Store and the Stores Administration office with access to both as well as
to aircraft component storage area. It covers an area of 21.6m2 and is equipped
with the necessary office furniture and a computer terminal. 8. Tool and Equipment
Store The area is used to
store general basic tooling and specific aircraft tooling required during
aircraft maintenance. It is also used to store general materials, lubricants,
greases, paints etc. The room covers an area of 30.6m2 and is equipped with
suitable shelves and wall mounted racks. The room is also air-conditioned. This
area is controlled and administered by the Duty Storekeeper. 9. Main Bonded Stores This area is used to
store all the A319/A320/A330 aircraft specific spares (rotables and consumables) and all
the aircraft servicing tools. It is equipped with metallic
shelves, covering an area of 355m2 and is air-conditioned. This area is under
the responsibility of the Duty Storekeepers and administered by the Senior
Store-keeper. 10. Goods Outwards -
Hold Area This room is located
at the far rear end of the Stores, and is used for the preparation and shipment
of all goods leaving stores. A part of this area is also assigned to the
"Quarantine - Hold" function where components are "Held" subject to
investigation. Time-Ex items subject to recertification, are also kept in this
room. The room covers an area of 107m2 and is equipped with the necessary
furniture and equipment and a computer terminal. 11. Bonded Store
(Bulky Items) This area is an
extension to the main Bonded Stores and is used to Store Serviceable bulky items
which can not be placed in the Main Stores. This Store measures
6m by 12m within the Hangar area and is administered by the Duty Store-Keeper. 12. Aircraft Seat
Storage The room covers an
area of 114m2 and is equipped with wooden shelves for the storage of aircraft
seats, seat covers and aircraft floor carpeting. The area is
administered by the Senior Store-Keeper.
Aircraft stores is manned 24 hours a day for the purpose of providing
spares and materials to operating aircraft. Overall administration and control
of Stores is carried out by the Materials Controller, and the Senior Storekeeper.
