Lecture on "AIRPORT AND
ENVIRONMENT"
The Royal Aeronautical Society Cyprus Branch is
organizing the above Lecture on Wednesday 23rd of June 1999 at Philoxenia
Hotel Nicosia at 18.00hrs.
The subject of "Airport and Environment" will be
presented by Mr. Iacovos Demetriou who is the Larnaca Airport
Manager.
Mr. Demetriou will address the impact of airport
operations on the environment and more particularly in terms of aircraft
noise.
In the early days of Aviation the presence of an
airport in the vicinity of a city was not a nuisance but something to be
proud of. However the advent of the jet engine and the increase in aviation
activity heightened public awareness on the environmental impact due to airport
operation.
This lecture will address the impact mainly in terms of aircraft
noise.
Other problems such as air and water pollution, waste management will
be considered
