The new Airbus A319 arrived

On the 26th November 2008, Cyprus Airways has welcomed its new A319 aircraft at Larnaca Airport, considered to be the youngest a/c in the fleet. The new A319 has got the name “LARNACA”, in honor of the City of Zenon which due to the Turkish invasion in July 1974 has been accommodating the Airport. The city of Larnaca consist the main operational base for Cyprus Airways activities since then. The new A319 is two and a half years old with a capacity of 126 seats of which 12 seats consist the business class compartment. The aircraft’s maintenance will be under the responsibility of Cyprus Airways. The registration of the new A319 is: 5B-DCF. The aircraft arrived from the United States of America under six years leasing with the company International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC). On the the 27th November 2008 his Reverence the Kition Bishop has conducted the holy water service in the presence of Cyprus Airways Chief Executive Chairman, Company’s Executives, Members of the House of Representatives, Police and Airport Officials and other member of the Cyprus Airways personnel. The new A319 replaces an older A320 aircraft, which due to its age (19 years old) creates problems to the company. The A320 is now under a selling process. Safety is the company’s priority and no compromises are made, resulting to grounded aircrafts, costing the company a fortune. The company’s strategic plan is to gradually replace all old aircrafts. The new aircraft will commence operation within the next days and definitely before the Christmas Holidays and as soon as all the inspections by the various government services and the Civil Aviation are concluded. The Company’s Commercial Department is now working on new routes for next year, in addition to the current ones. Also, in co-operation with the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) our Company is in the process of identifying new routes that will bring people to Cyprus.
